Keeping the Dream Alive ??

The hardest thing for me these days is keeping the hope alive, keeping the trust with the universe - god - myself that all is well and the dreams and desires I have are there for a reason, and the talent, training, etc I have is there for a reason. My coach recently told me that "To Have it all, I have to give it all up" - another way of "Letting Go", but the problem is - in letting go, the hope and knowing and trust also goes.

All the self help stuff out there, all says in a nutshell, "Don't Worry, Be Happy", They all say, "don't be in argument with what it", "It is what it is" - so today, November 13, 2010, I find myself wondering how does one be totally happy and fulfilled with what is when that reality does not contain the dreams and desires I have had my whole life.

I wonder if the artists I have long admired felt the same way. Did John Lennon ever say to himself before he became successful, "If I don't get to make music for the world, I will still be happy". Did Helen Mirren ever say, "If it didn't happen for me now, then it never will, and I better find another dream to aspire to". Are these examples just examples of lucky people? Is there such a thing as luck?

Can an artist ever be happy if they don't get to do the art that is inside them? The art they have always known is their passion and that is their destiny to make it come out and share with the world?

I have a great comedy series that I love, and it is all on me to make it. No one is helping me unless I pay them, and I must have a way to make money which means working a ton of hours a week to pay the bills, support the kids, and make my show, and - oh yeah, have a place to live and eat food. I am someone with responsibilities and waiting tables, or bartending or those other actor "day jobs" don't give me the type of money I need for my family.

So what does one do in this case? It's a hard one. If anyone out there feels the same way, leave a comment. The bottom line, we must find happiness with a life that is not what we want. We must keep hope alive, the dream alive, and find ways to be happy with the life we have. I know that is true, but I am sharing with you all how hard it is to accept that. I know there are tons of extremely talented people out there not living their dreams. I weep for them. I weep for myself.

If anyone wants to partner with me to make my show all it can be, for the love of art, and not for money, (until we are on Showtime - then you can have money :) ) reach out to me. Writing my own roles and producing my series, one episode at a time is the only way I know to keep this dream alive. Be a being of love and do all you can to love yourself most of all, so you can love those in your life. If you were to tell someone you truly love to not give up hope, then tell that to yourself. How would you inspire someone you love to not give up? Inspire yourself. Love yourself, and Let It Be.

Wishing you all for your dreams to come true and for you all to live lives of JOY.

Elton John - Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters

Incredible performance. This song (and this album) is simply an example of a MASTERPIECE. I am always so inspired and in awe of the early music of Elton John. When I hear this song, it always takes me away to a place of serenity and peace. The simplicity of the musical arrangement is genius and a gift to us all. A beautiful and gentle masterpiece.

Van Morrison

After seeing Scorcese's The Last Waltz, I am on a big Van Morrison kick. I have been daydreaming of starring in a movie that was not only, solely Van Morrison on the soundtrack, but also written by Van the Man.

With my show, NEERJA, I hope to merge my music influences with the actual script. Much of what you see is based on real life experiences with songs that captured the moment to me best. Those songs inspired the script.

Listening to Van Morrison's music, I am delighted by the way Van captures the feelings and emotions and paints the picture so simply but perfectly. It strikes me that this man should write a love story to be filmed and soundtrack all in his hands.

I love these moments of inspiration. I reminds me of why I am creating this show. Because CREATING it brings me joy. Especially with Van Morrison on my iPod. :)

Music by Shawn Christie

Music for NEERJA was created by Shawn Christie of the band Zeroesque (http://www.zeroesque.com/) who celebrates a birthday this week. Music is a very important ingredient to this show. Shawn is a talented guitarist/musician who works well with show creater Neerja Sharma as he incorporates Neerja's musical inspirations from classic rock to modern pop, into original music, as in the case of "Thunderous Erection", an original song created for episode 7. Check out episode 7 on the show's youtube channel.

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success for Actors

I have been reading "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success for Parents" by Deepak Chopra. I like books that are for parents to share with their children, because I find the simplicity in describing things to kids is a great way for me to understand concepts on more of a fundamental level. As an actor, this helps me to stay on an enjoyable journey filled with love and appreciation for all opportunities, especially those auditions that don't lead to bookings or pilot pitches that don't lead to a production deal. If an artist can fully embrace these laws which I will list here, then they are always in touch with their creativity as opposed to the LACK of preceived success. An artisit who continues to embrace their unique art and always be creating more of that art, is ALWAYS and ALREADY "successful". After working and aspiring for acting success for several years, now, to me, "Success" has to mean JOY and LOVE or what am I doing? Is it the accolades and fame and monetary riches I am striving for OR the ability make my art and share it with the world in my unique way of communicating what I want to communicate?

After watching the documentary on the MAKING OF BORN TO RUN - which I will ALWAYS, from now on, recommend to every artists I meet and know and love - I am more grateful for the ability to create than worried about whether I "make it".

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success (Think of your acting career, your pilot, book, film, music, etc......)
1. The Law of Pure Potentiality
simplified: Everything is possible
2. The Law of Giving
simplified: If you want to get something, give it.
3. The Law of Karma
simplified: When you make a choice, you change the future.
4. The Law of Least Effort
simplified: Don't say no - go with the flow.
5. The Law of Intention
simplified: Every time you wish or want, you plant a seed.
6. The Law of Detachment
simplified: Enjoy the journey
7. The Law of Dharma
simplified: You are here for a reason

Just create your vision in any way you can. We already have everything we need to create what we want. Next time you audition for a role you really love, just be grateful you had the oppty to inhabit it for a while. Whether or not you book it, you got to create the role in the way only you could have. What you offered in that audition was your gift of your art to those people in that room.

Choose to be creatively fulfilled and happy today.
